Craziness! TWO conferences that I like to attend regularly are happening at the same time this week…and I’m not going to be at either one! What can I say, but it’s important to stay in tune with your current priorities, which fluctuate all the time, but should always be calibrated to your values.
My primary terminal or core value is Joy. Some values I hold that are instrumental to this are Love and Freedom, and some attitudes and behaviors that I value that support this include health, lifelong learning, and humor.
The two conferences are the Beachbody Coach Summit, and BlogHer. While both of these would have a relatively high priority by falling into the behaviors that support my core value of Joy, there is another project that ranks higher in priority because working on it has the greatest capacity for positively affecting my life by supporting my value of Joy. It is building our house.
I could have chosen either conference to attend and felt good about it, because it would still have aligned with my core values. Honestly, it would have been the easier thing to do than to confront this gigantic undertaking of being responsible for getting our dream house designed and built, so we can someday finally move in and out of this apartment. The route I chose is fraught with potential for failure. Attending either of those conferences for me would not have been so daunting. But that feeling of fear in my gut tells me how important this is, and why it needs to be my priority.
What action can you prioritize that has the greatest capacity for positively affecting your life? Let us know in the comments!
